Angie Lau

Angie Lau is the founder and CEO of Forkast.News, a digital media platform that covers emerging technology at the intersection of business, politics and economy-starting with blockchain. Forkast.News provides deep insights and analysis of the impact of innovation across industries and borders for corporate decision-makers and professionals. Angie is an award-winning 20+ year veteran in broadcast journalism, most recognized for her role as Bloomberg Television's Asia anchor of "First Up with Angie Lau" where she collected 10,000+ interviews in her career, including some of the top newsmakers and business leaders in the world. The transition from journalist to founder began with the recognition that old media was being quickly disrupted by increasing demand for digital content. To remain impactful and relevant, media and journalism had to evolve. Her desire to understand blockchain technology better, as a possible tool for better media, led to founding Forkast.News in late 2018. Angie is a long-time advocate and mentor in journalism. As the former two-term President of AAJA Asia Chapter, she supercharged the membership from dozens to now 300+ members across the Asia Pacific region. Under her tenure, AAJA Asia continued to grow its flagship journalism conference for media professionals: New.Now.Next Media Conference, now going into its next decade. As the former co-director of AAJA's other flagship national youth program, "J Camp" - a 5-day bootcamp for high school students interested in journalism - Angie has proudly helped inspire, mentor, and lead the next generation of journalists. She always makes time to mentor and speak to students and young professionals across the region. Today, this mother, founder, CEO, Editor-in-Chief, and sought-after keynote speaker and host of innovation conferences around the world is continuing to build –– and hopes to illuminate with not only better-quality journalism, but also provide the technology tools that can return trust to a global audience. She has spoken, led, and moderated for IBM, EY, UN General Assembly, Arup, Swire, OECD, Asian Development Bank, PwC, UBS, Blackrock and others. Angie's TEDx Talk "I Am Not Supposed to Be Here" is now a TED Ed Lesson for its global audience of 6.7 million followers. Angie was born in Hong Kong, raised in Canada, and returned to Hong Kong in 2011 as a correspondent for Bloomberg. She is a proud alum of Ryerson University's School of Journalism. Angie is also an active member in the community, serving two terms as Foreign Correspondent Club Board Governor, and today currently serves as governor on the Executive Committee of Canadian Chamber of Commerce Hong Kong. She remains in this region today, recognizing this next decade will be very much led by developments in innovation in Asia.
